Hello Volvo people!
I have been busy with the red volvo and enjoying the snow!
Before the snow I replaced my heater hore valve that was leaking and that someone had repaired:

A very nice guide on the replacement is by Skandix: https://www.skandix.de/en/documents/i...bc1c34677e
But one thing I would definitely do is unbolt the gas pedal via the two bolts next to it and release the gas cable and set the pedal aside to gain more room.

Yesterday and today I started to replace the old valve cover gasket, put the original studs in the head that hold the valve cover nuts and change the vacuum pump:

If for some reason your valve cover studs have been removed and you are reinstalling them then clean and dry the thread pockets first before tightening the stud or the hydraulic pressure might damage your block!

A interesting problem that I ran into is following: Volvo (and the VW vehicles using the D24 engine) should have 2 types of vacuum pumps, the earlier and the late model. The earlier model uses a longer pushrod and the later model a shorter pushrod. When I installed the new type of pump with the new pushrod, there was like 5mm of gap between the pushrod and the camshaft lobe in the "rest" position. When I put the old style pushrod with the new pump on the engine, the pushrod was too long and I couldn't turn the engine over. Gap:

Strange....
Anyway since I don't like the idea of the pushrod bouncing around while the engine is running and causing dynamic and shock loads on the camshaft, I took another good old style pump from another of my engines and used it Cool
Changed the gearbox oil, I have driven ca. 50 000km with the volvo and I don't know when it was last changed. Should do the differential too Grin

Sadly, there was a casualty as well:

My steering rack, which was leaking a bit before bought the farm and is junk Sad
The failure was sudden and fast.
Will have to get a new one.

Tomorrow I will change the front brake shields for new flashy white ones!

Also I found this website, where you can look up your volvo spare part catalog, very useful: https://www.gcp.se/en/catalogues/
